If you are a regular reader of our blog, then you know about our Eco Art program that helps to recognize the efforts of our many Green Teams. For our final quarter of the year, we are sending one of our Green Team trophies off to Orlando, Fla., where we are celebrating the achievements of one team’s use of creative recycling.
Late last year, all Wells Fargo mail centers changed our corporate mailing process. To make our outgoing packages even more secure, mail centers across the company switched from a simple zipped bag to one secured by a traceable plastic tie. Although the new lock process provided greater security to the mail system, the tie was only usable once and was not recyclable as part of our regular plastic recycling.
In Orlando, many of our Green Team Members are also part of the local mail center. When they saw the new process, the team knew they could make a difference—after all, their center alone used about 4,000 plastic tie locks per day!
So the team reached out to our recycling vendor and established a special process to reclaim and recycle used plastic ties. Since its start in October 2010, the new mail recycling program has recycled almost a quarter million ties! That’s a ton of plastic the team is saving from the landfill.
In fact, we saved just a few of the plastic ties to incorporate in our latest Green Team trophy piece, which was developed in honor of their work. See if you can spot them in the photo and let us know what other creative items you recycle!
