A toast to Meridian

Working in the Wells Fargo Corporate Archives brings new surprises every day.  While digging through a recently-delivered box of ephemera, I came across two small cardboard boxes that made an unexpected sloshing sound.  I opened them to find two mini-bottles of sparkling apple cider stamped with labels commemorating the 10th anniversary of Meridian Bancorp.  This Reading, Pennsylvania company was a predecessor of Wachovia, which merged with Wells Fargo in 2008.

Meridian Bancorp was established June 30, 1983 by the merger of Central Penn National Corp. of Philadelphia and American Bancorp, both institutions with long histories in Pennsylvania.

The sparkling cider was a gift to team members to thank them for their part in the company’s success as it marked its first decade in 1993.  Then as now, it’s the people who create reasons to celebrate!
