If you’re a high school junior, the SAT and ACT are a big deal this year. They don’t have to be a source of stress for you, however. By planning ahead and approaching the tests with the right mindset, you’ll be ready to take them on when the time comes. To get started on your SAT/ACT gameplan, check out the following tips:
Spend some time preparing. Plan to take some time to prepare for these tests. Check in to see if your school offers an SAT/ACT preparatory course. Or, you can check out options for online preparation, such as courses and practice tests. For the SAT, look at www.collegeboard.org and for the ACT, look at www.act.org. If you’re prepping on your own, plan to get started a few months before you plan to take the test.
Plan to take the test only once. Study and prepare for the SAT or ACT as though you’re only going to take the test once. Take it seriously and be ready when test day comes.
Don’t stress about it. With that said, try to keep the test in perspective. Don’t over-prepare or stress yourself out about it. If you don’t do well, you certainly can take it again.
Get your rest. The night before the test, get a good night’s sleep. This is no time to cram (you can’t cram for these tests anyway!) Just relax with the knowledge that you’ve spend the previous months preparing yourself for this day.
Do your best. When you’re actually taking the test, stay focused and manage your time carefully. It’s a long test, but do your best to stay engaged and give careful thought to all your answers throughout.
